This is the most fraudulent and dishonest moving company. They did our move and destroyed half our things. We also paid extra for their “ packing service” which was basically like having illegal laborers throw things in boxes with no labels and dumped them in our new home.
On top of that, they have fraudulently charged extra charges for extra hours that are completely untrue

The five star ratings here must be complete lies I would never trust this company. I’m actually going to be filing a lawsuit and complaining to consumer Bureau. Whatever you do do not move here in New York City because they will make your move miserable. I have moved at least seven times in the city. I saw their five star reviews and wanted to make the move and it was the biggest regret of my entire move. This whole thing has been a nightmare. They’ve triple charged me which is illegal and they didn’t even send enough people to do the job.
Trust me do not hire them

If I could give this company 0 stars, I absolutely would. Based on my experience, I find it very difficult to reconcile what I went through with the nearly perfect Google rating. I wish I had looked beyond the stars before trusting this company with my move.

This was one of the most frustrating service experiences I've ever had.

From the moment the crew arrived, they failed to follow my instructions. They packed items that I had specifically asked them to leave behind while, at the same time, leaving behind several items that were supposed to be moved. As a result, I had to hire another moving company and pay additional money just to move the belongings they failed to take.

The packing itself was incredibly careless. Many boxes had no labels whatsoever, making unpacking a nightmare. Instead of organizing items by room or category, belongings were simply dumped into random boxes with little to no organization.

What shocked me the most was what I discovered after unpacking. Many of the moving boxes contained only a single item or just a few very small items—when they could have easily been packed together. It was difficult not to question whether the boxes were intentionally underfilled to increase the number of boxes used and, ultimately, the amount I was charged. I was genuinely stunned as I opened box after box with almost nothing inside.

To make matters worse, I was billed for additional packing services that I never authorized or approved. At no point was I asked to approve a revised estimate, sign off on additional work, or consent to these extra charges. When I questioned the charges, the company simply claimed that I had authorized them claim that I completely dispute.

The handling of my furniture was equally unacceptable. My leather couch was damaged, my velvet dining chairs were damaged, my dining table was dented, my rug was damaged, and numerous other pieces of furniture were left with scratches, gouges, and scuff marks. These were items that had been well cared for before the move.

When I raised these concerns, instead of taking responsibility, the company directed me to my third-party insurance for the damaged items while refusing to address the unauthorized charges. Having insurance does not excuse careless handling of a customer's belongings or charging for services that were never approved.

Overall, I was left with damaged furniture, missing moving services that I had to pay another company to complete, unexpected charges, disorganized packing, and a company unwilling to take accountability. I strongly recommend that anyone considering this company document every item with photos and videos, supervise the crew throughout the move, and insist that every additional service or charge be approved in writing before the work begins.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company.

Otter Moving Company was absolutely fantastic! The crew was friendly, hardworking, and made the entire experience stress-free. Everything went so smoothly. They handled every item with care, worked efficiently, and were great to work with from start to finish. It’s clear they take pride in what they do. So grateful for Peter and Team 57 for their thoughtful care, kindness and patience. Hot muggy day and nevertheless helped my family move into our third floor walk up. Team came early, stayed late and always persistent. Couldn’t imagine doing this move as a family without them. Strong recommendation.

We decided to go with Otter because they had the best price offer and great service. They were not pushy and had great transparency with their price estimate. Big shoutout to Stevan Knez. and Jose! They were so professional and time efficient. We’ll only go with Otter from now on. Highly recommend!!

We’ve moved a few times and these guys were genuinely the best. We had to adjust start time super early and they were very accommodating and helpful! And day of moving was a breeze! They were so quick! I’d personally use them over the other big companies in ny.

We hired them for what should have been a straightforward move from our walk-up to a building with an elevator. Instead, it turned into a nightmare that cost us hundreds of dollars in damaged property.

The entire experience was a disaster from start to finish:

- Unprepared Crew & Major Delays: The movers showed up without basic tools like screwdrivers and power drills. They struggled to manually disassemble standard furniture like a couch and two bed frames. A move that should have taken a few hours stretched into an 8 hour ordeal purely because they lacked proper equipment.
- We Had to Finish the Move Ourselves: Because their lack of tools caused such massive delays, we arrived at our new building way past the evening moving curfew. The crew gave up, left our furniture completely unassembled, and my roommate and I were forced to spend our night manually hauling heavy boxes and furniture up to our apartment ourselves. We literally paid $1,000 for a service we ended up completing on our own.
- Gross Lack of Hygiene: They used cheap, paper-thin plastic wrap on our mattresses that shredded almost immediately. Rather than taking care of our things, they placed our unprotected mattresses directly on the dirty NYC sidewalk, leaving them filthy and stained. On top of this, one of the movers used our bathroom with the door wide open and did not wash his hands before proceeding to move all of our furniture. As two woman, this was completely disgusting and unacceptable.
- Smashed & Broken Property: They completely mishandled clearly labeled "FRAGILE" boxes, destroying our dishes, mugs, plates, Pyrex containers and glasses. To make matters worse, my roommate's bed frame was improperly dismantled and completely broken. They also dented our wall when ripping apart the bed frame. They broke our couch, vacuum, headboards, boxes (plastic & cardboard) and more.

This company is underprepared and negligent with personal property.

I can’t even put into words how incredible Brandon from truck 23 was for our move. He moved like a MACHINE. He moved us out of our elevator building in 1 hour exactly (big furniture AND 30 bins). Then moved us in to our 2nd floor walk up in under 2 hours. Everything arrived safely and securely. All furniture was taken apart, wrapped and put back together expertly. Highly highl recommend. Josué & Luis make sure you request these good men. They are the most helpful movers I have ever got. Not only did they go above and beyond company expectations. They understood I was one person alone with nobody to help and stayed with me overtime until 1 am. They didn’t leave until it was right and next day which was scheduled for 9am I asked if they could do 6 am and they were there early and ready to go. I can’t stress how much I enjoyed the experience with these guys!

Excellent job moving from a 4th floor walk up. Edvin and his brother were super nice and professional. Moving is never fun, but they made the process as easy as possible. I’d strongly recommend Otter to anyone looking for competent, efficient movers at a reasonably price in NYC!

The whole process was hassle free. The moving team arrived within 20 minutes of my 2 hours estimated arrival window and they completed everything in a bit over an hour. They are so efficient and friendly. I highly recommend their 5 star services!

Two for two! The Otter team is quick, efficient, and considerate with how they handle moving, so I’m glad we went with them again (for the second time now). Sebastian and Luis were amazing, communicating throughout, ensuring all of our requests were met, and getting everything exactly where we wanted it in record time!

The best movers! They were quick, careful, and conscientious. We had two stops- a storage unit and a home. The movers were very efficient taking things to our storage unit and packing it all away so we could still access things we need from our storage. They lifted heavy objects like it was nothing. Very impressed! Worth the cost!!

The moving crew was amazing. They were very polite, careful with all of my things, respectful, and didn’t try upcharging me. They were quick and diligent. Greta customer service and highly recommend. Best movers I’ve had since moving around Manhattan and Long Island.

Viktor and Angel from Truck 41 were absolutely incredible! They were able to move everything from our apartment with great speed and care. They were also super flexible to work with us while we dealt with issues with our building's service elevator. We highly recommend Otter Moving and would use them again, thanks to Viktor (who speaks amazing Korean) and Angel!

Sorry this is so delayed, it took a bit to get internet, but I cannot rave about the team that handled my move. They made quick work of moving me out of my 4th floor walk up in Harlem and had everything moved into my new place in Brooklyn before I could even get there. My partner was waiting on the other end of the move. I had a great team, and they handled everything with care. Otter was recommended by one of my work colleagues and I was so glad that I booked my move with Otter and absolutely recommend them to anyone needing to move in NYC. I am hoping that I do r need to move for a long time but if I do, I am absolutely going to use Otter again!

If I could give Luca and Stephon more than 10 stars, I absolutely would. They made what could have been one of the most stressful days of my life into an incredible experience.

They arrived early, introduced themselves, and immediately made me feel at ease. They were friendly, courteous, professional, and got to work without wasting a single minute. I had what felt like an endless number of heavy boxes and storage bins, yet nothing seemed to faze them. They worked nonstop, loading box after box with remarkable strength and efficiency, never once complaining or slowing down.

What impressed me even more was how carefully they handled every single item. They took the time to protect my furniture and belongings before moving them and continued to be just as careful while unloading everything at my new home. Their attention to detail gave me complete confidence that my possessions were in the best hands.

One moment that truly stood out was their kindness. It was an extremely hot day, and I realized I had completely run out of bottled water. Feeling terrible that I had nothing to offer them, I apologized. They simply went to buy water themselves and returned with the largest bottle for me as well—refusing to let me pay for it. That small act of generosity spoke volumes about the kind of people they are.

After hours of loading, we arrived at my new apartment. Before unloading, they assessed the layout, came up with a plan, and immediately got back to work. Once again, they never stopped. No breaks—just constant dedication from start to finish.

The biggest challenge came when we discovered my dresser wouldn’t fit up the stairwell. I’m on the third floor, and the ceiling and corners of the staircase simply didn’t provide enough clearance. Luca and Stephon tried multiple angles and different approaches, determined to make it work without damaging either my furniture or the building. Although it ultimately wasn’t possible, I was amazed by how hard they worked and how unwilling they were to give up.

Then came another obstacle—my box spring. It had the exact same problem. Once again, they exhausted every possible option trying to get it upstairs. I could see how hard they were working and how much they genuinely wanted to solve the problem.

Then Luca and Stephon came up with the most brilliant idea.

They decided to safely lift the box spring up to my third-floor balcony. Before attempting it, they carefully discussed the safest way to do it. Stephon securely tied a harness around the box spring while Luca positioned himself on the balcony. Working together with incredible teamwork, Luca pulled while Stephon pushed. The box spring was extremely heavy, and halfway through Stephon called for Luca to hold it while he raced up three flights of stairs to help pull it over the balcony. Together, they accomplished what seemed impossible.

Thanks to their determination, creativity, and teamwork, I had a bed to sleep on that night.

As for my dresser, everything worked out in the end. I was fortunate enough to donate it to a family of five who had just thrown away their own dresser and were wondering how they would replace it. Knowing it went to a family who truly needed it turned what started as a disappointment into a blessing.

Luca and Stephon went above and beyond in every possible way. They are hardworking, respectful, incredibly careful, kind, resourceful, and genuinely committed to providing exceptional service. Their work ethic and problem-solving abilities were unlike anything I’ve ever experienced from a moving company.

I would recommend this company to anyone without hesitation. If you’re lucky enough to have Luca and Stephon as your movers, you’re in the very best hands.

10/10 I highly recommend Otter Moving and will be using them again in the future. We went from a four floor walk up to a second floor apt and they made it a BREEZE. Incredible communication when I was booking and receiving a quote— not to mention they gave me the best quote!! Vlad on the day of the move was communicative, on time and fast. They took great care of our furniture, wrapped what needed to be wrapped and padded what needed to be padded. They showed up, crushed it, and then helped place everything in the new apartment. I’m genuinely so thrilled with this experience. Thank you Vlad.

I have used Otter twice – once for a small local move and once for a large interstate move – and they were absolutely excellent. I recommend them to all of my friends. Milos and Denis were the crew for my interstate move and they were PHENOMENAL. They were kind, punctual, super helpful, and moved a mountain of boxes in minutes with the utmost care. Can’t recommend them enough!

Had a great experience with Otter! They were super easy and responsive to work with prior to the move itself. On the day of, they arrived on the earlier side of the time window and worked very quickly. They were efficient and careful with all of our items. We had a lot of furniture and boxes and they handled everything with care. We did a two-bedroom apartment move within about 3-4 hours. Nothing was broken or lost in the move. Highly recommend! They were also the most reasonably priced of all the movers we quoted and were well worth that cost.

3rd time using Otter over the last few years and had another amazing experience with their crew. Basil & his brother went above and beyond to complete my move working through some pretty intense storm and torrential downpours. They made sure all my furniture was extra cared for and protected throughout and everything arrived in perfect condition. Thank you again guys!

#58 Zivorad and his team were incredible! They were so careful with everything, were swift with disassembling and reassembling, & truly went above and beyond to make the move easy and stress-free for me. They worked so hard and I really appreciate it. And Zivorad has a great sense of humor! The whole thing was under 2 hours and I’m so glad I had them for the job! 10/10 would recommend :)

I had an amazing experience! Lucka and Stephan from Truck 44 were absolutely fantastic.

There was an issue with my address being entered incorrectly, but that was completely my fault. Despite the confusion, they arrived as quickly as possible and were incredibly kind, professional, and understanding throughout the entire process.

I had pulled an all-nighter packing before the move, and as soon as they found out, they worked efficiently to help get everything wrapped up as quickly as they could. They were friendly, positive, and made what could have been a very stressful day so much easier.

The movers on the day of my move were amazing. Victor (and another guy but I don’t remember his name) were very nice, professional, and efficient. However, the communication before my move was not great. I would give information or ask questions and wait a few days, even up to a week to get a response

I am not someone who typically leaves reviews, but I was absolutely blown away by the service Otter provided during my move. I initially booked with Otter because of their outstanding 5-star reviews & pricing, and after my experience, I completely understand why they have earned them.

From the very beginning, Alex coordinated everything over the phone. Since this was my first time using a moving company, I had a lot of questions. He was incredibly kind, patient, responsive, and helpful throughout the entire process, making what could have been a stressful experience feel seamless.

On moving day, Uros Team #3 & crew were phenomenal. They worked quickly, efficiently, and handled everything with great care. As they were wrapping up, they noticed I still had a few extra bags and storage bins that weren't originally part of the move. Without a second thought or any hesitation, they loaded those up too. It was a small gesture, but it meant a lot and really showed that they genuinely cared about making the move as easy as possible for me.

The move-in location was a fourth-floor walk-up with extremely narrow staircases, yet they never slowed down or complained. They carried every single item up four flights of stairs and delivered everything in perfect condition.

What impressed me the most was their attitude. They were moving during a brutal heat wave, with the city covered in smoke from the Canadian wildfires, yet they remained positive, professional, and friendly the entire time. Their work ethic and dedication deserve to be recognized, so I hope this message gets back to the team as well as management.

Team 40 were amazing do my move. They were really speedy and careful, so it only took a couple of hours. I it myself pretty badly right before they arrived and so I didn’t quite finish packing everything, and they helped just scoop everything up and carefully load it. Totally recommend Otter moving, the price was good, the team were really communicative leading up to and during the move. I truly appreciated not needing to worry about things.

Truck Number 11 movers were absolutely fantastic from start to finish. They arrived on time, handled all of our furniture and boxes with great care, and worked efficiently while still being incredibly friendly and professional. My partner and I recently moved out of a fourth-floor walk-up, and I couldn't believe how smooth Otter made the entire process.

From the start, Ross was fantastic to work with. He was incredibly responsive, professional, and easy to communicate with. Anytime I emailed him with a question, I'd usually hear back within minutes, and if it was easier to explain over the phone, he'd just give me a call. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, organized, and proactive. They checked in throughout the process to make sure everything was on track, but never in a way that felt pushy.

A huge shoutout to Daniel and Joshua as well. They handled everything from delivering the crates to moving day itself, and they absolutely crushed it. They were friendly, efficient, and treated all of our belongings with care. Considering they were a two-person crew moving us out of a fourth-floor walk-up, I was seriously impressed with how quickly and professionally they got the job done.
